From Segun Amure, (The New Diplomat’s Abuja Bureau)

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said he will not support Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2023 if he gets the Presidential ticket under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike, who spoke to BBC Pidgin at the weekend in Port Harcourt, said he will only support him (Jonathan) if he contests under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said his decision not to support Ex-President Jonathan despite coming from the South stems from his inability to play anti-party politics by backing an APC candidate.

His statement reads: “I am a PDP member, if former President Goodluck Jonathan picks a ticket to run in my party, I will support him. I can’t go anti-party. But if he picks a ticket to run in APC, I won’t support him because I can’t do anti-party.

“He knows I won’t support him in APC even if he is from the south. I don’t do that kind of politics. It is a party we are talking about and I don’t play ethnicity.”
