The government of Anambra State, under the leadership of Professor Charles Soludo, has explained why it barred stalwarts and loyalists of both the All Progressives Congress (APC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from wearing party uniforms or other outfits bearing either political party’s logo to welcome President Bola Tinubu in his official visit to the state today.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, disclosed this in a press statement made available on Thursday.

According to the statement, the directive was issued to prevent needless political rivalry and public showmanship that could obscure the real purpose of the president’s visit

The statement reads in part, “This is to inform you that everybody coming to Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka for the reception of President Bola Tinubu tomorrow, should be in mufti.

“Please nobody should put on APGA clothes, or Support Groups uniforms.”

There are speculations that loyalists and groups have finalized efforts to storm the venue of the reception in clothes with emblazoned party logo and inscriptions to show their support to Tinubu.

However, the directive was issued in the nick of time to prevent chaos and project a non-partisan atmosphere and ensuring a unified reception for the President in the interest of public order and decorum.

Tinubu, during the official working visit, is expected to host a high-level town hall meeting between the President and key stakeholders in the state, at the newly-refurbished Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
