The highly anticipated primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State on Thursday came to a climax as Mr. Asue Ighodalo emerged as the winner.

Mr. Ighodalo secured a total of 577 votes to defeat other contestants, including Ed9lo state deputy governor Philip Shaibu, Mr. Anslem Ojezua, Mr. Felix Akhabue, Dr. Martin Uhomoibhi, Hajia Hadizat Umoru, Mr. Osaro Onaiwu, and Mr. Arthur Esene, to clinch the party’s candidate for the September governorship election.

Reports monitored by TheNewDiplomat indicated that the exercise, which was held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, the state capital, was conducted under tight security.

Prior to the election, some of the aspirants, including Mr. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Ms. Omosede Igbinedion, withdrew from the race.
