  • Say 44 Vehicles, Others Burnt

By Gbenga Abulude (Politics and General Desk)

Popular television station, Television Continental (TVC) has resumed operations three days after it was vandalised and set ablaze by suspected hoodlums.

The TV station was among the many properties damaged on Wednesday following the shooting of #EndSARS protesters at Lekki Tollgate plaza by men of the Nigerian military. The attack led to anger among youths who capitalized on the moment to destroy public and private properties across the state.

The reason why the TV station was targeted may not be unconnected with the belief that it is owned by All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The office complex of a national newspaper, The Nation believed to be owned by Tinubu was also attacked though security operatives were on ground to repel the attack.

The Nation has since resumed operations after the attack on Wednesday by hoodlums.

TVC however was still battling technical hitches as at the time of this report.

The management of both TVC and Max Radio said a total of 44 vehicles, four outside broadcasting (OB) vans, three production control rooms, Two Master Control Room (MCR) studio playout machines, were completely burnt.

Meanwhile, staff members of TVC have spoken on the encounter. The presenters of ‘Your View’ program, Mrs Tope Mark-Odigie and the host, Mrs Morayo Afolabi-Brown who were on air when hoodlums attacked said the experience gave them mixed feelings.

Though they said the attackers were very lenient on them as their assignment was to destroy the facilities and hurt the owners of the company, not the employees.

Morayo claimed she received few punches on her head.

“One of them initially rummaged my handbag but others quickly intervened and reiterated that the mission was neither to kill nor steal,” Mrs Mark Odigie said.

Both presenters, thanked Nigerians for their prayers and best wishes, and sang praises to God.

In spite of the trauma, Morayo and Tope have soldiered on. Though there was no longer a studio to operate from in the meantime, they were said to have deployed social media to present their favourite program.
