President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the nomination of Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The appointment was announced on Thursday through a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

In the statement, Onanuga said Ramat, a 39-year-old electrical engineer and administrator, is expected to bring over 15 years of experience in Nigeria’s energy landscape, to steer the affairs of NERC.

The statement reads in part: “Holding a PhD in Strategic Management from Lincoln University, a Master’s in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Jodhpur National University, India, and a B.Eng in Electrical Engineering from Bayero University, Kano, Ramat is poised to lead NERC into a new era of innovation and consumer-focused governance.”

In addition to Ramat’s appointment, President Tinubu nominated two new commissioners for NERC: Mr. Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun as Commissioner for Finance and Management Services.

These nominations, subject to Senate confirmation, aim to strengthen the commission’s leadership and align with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the statement explained.
