  • To Deepen Ties on Bilateral relations

By Abiola Olawale

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Equatorial Guinean President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, on Wednesday, signed an agreement on the Gulf of Guinea Pipeline Project.

The agreement, which was signed in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea is said to encompass legislative and regulatory measures for an operational gas pipeline, its establishment and operation, transit of natural gas, ownership of the gas pipeline, and general principles governing the project.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

The New Diplomat reports that Tinubu on Wednesday embarked on a three-day official visit to Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking after the signing, Tinubu said he is optimistic that the agreement will create new opportunities for gas exploration and employment in both countries -Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, respectively.

Ngelale, in the statement also disclosed that Tinubu and Mbasogo engaged in discussions relating to employment creation, food security, multilateral relations, and conflict resolution mechanisms on the continent.

According to the Presidency, Tinubu uses the occasion to emphasize the necessity for intra-African problem-solving and stressed the importance of promoting peace and stability for growth and prosperity on the continent.

Tinubu was quoted as saying: “Concerning Africa, conflicts and conflict resolution were discussed. We discussed various areas of conflict and what we can do to promote peace.

“We talked about the promotion of peace and stability in our countries and growth and prosperity on our continent.

“In the same way that Europe and America have kept themselves and found a solution for their conflicts, we have to look at both inadequate capital, industrialization efforts, research and development programmes, and enlighten our people, navigate our way through problems.

“Instead of the crisis and conflicts that we see in the Republic of Congo, and others, we have to look inwards to solve problems ourselves.”
