In a bid to check increasing security threats, President Bola Tinubu has deployed advanced patrol helicopters into service Today, vowing to boost counterterror capabilities against terrorists in the nation.
The newly acquired T129 gunships feature heavy armaments perfected for battling insurgents in harsh conditions – a powerful new tool to Joint Task Forces amid equipment shortages
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represents President Bola Tinubu at the event, said that the acquired helicopters signifies the present administration’s commitment to fostering security in the nation.
While he commends the Chief of Air Staff, Officers, and the entire military for their commitment to national security, Tinubu assures continuous support for the NAF and other arms of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the struggle against terrorism and other criminal activities
“These attack helicopters will be decisive in winning the war against terror,” said Defense Minister Badaru during the induction ceremony today at 131 Engineering Group Hanger, Nigeria Airforce Base, Makurdi.
While applauding Tinubu for urgently backing the military, Badaru advices proper maintenance by the personnel.
This move by the Presidency follows a spiral of violence nationwide and is seen as an added firepower sorely needed stretch to security missions. The all-weather gunships will enable surgical strikes and rapid deployment day or night amidst Nigeria’s vast territories where troops are thinly spread.
Pilots have already begun training with the dynamic new aircraft as more units enter service. Air Chief Marshal Abubakar promises a massive fleet upgrade with more choppers and planes coming.
