- As He Lands In Asaba For APC Guber Primary
As the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege prepares for the All-Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary taking place in Asaba tomorrow, he has unveiled his masterplan on how he will fix Delta State and uplift it from the dungeon it has been plunged into in the past 24 years by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP misrule.
The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial district had, a few days ago, unveiled his manifesto titled: ‘The EDGE to build new Delta’, which he described as a solemn social pact with Deltans, giving details of how he plans to rebuild the State when he becomes the governor in 2023.
According to him, the EDGE which is an acronym for Employment and Empowerment, Good Governance, Development and Enduring Peace and Security is planned to Build a New Delta, BAND, which will include critical areas of governance that have the potential of driving government’s agenda, adding that “It is a product of profound thought based on my practical experience both in the Executive and Legislative arms of government.”
The Deputy President of the Senate also noted in his manifesto that his experience as a former Secretary to the Delta State Government as well as being a seasoned Senator who has climbed to the number two principal position in the lawmaking arm of government in the country, he has seen it all and is well-positioned and privileged to have a panoramic view of the issues of governance.
“It is these experiences I am bringing to bear on my plans for Delta state. Yes, governance is tough, but it is not all rocket science. So, we are going to engage with vigour on all fronts, and build a brand-new Delta
“I will address our scary unemployment rate by prioritizing public investment in agriculture and tech-driven entrepreneurship. My plan as stated in our manifesto will change the business ecosystem of the state and create an investment-friendly charter that makes access to funds and infrastructure a natural way of life.”
“Human capital development, agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, housing and other labour-intensive interventions are at the core of our agenda. We shall establish a Delta State Employment, Entrepreneurship and Empowerment Programme (DEEP), and facilitate the establishment of cluster industries in each of the 25 LGAs of our state.
“We will deliberately create an enabling environment for industries and manufacturing. Establish technology hubs, set up small business loan guarantee schemes, promote skills acquisition and set up a Career Development Centre for Deltans.
“As part of our plans to promote ease of doing business, we’ll undertake institutional and process reviews, remove red tape and bureaucratic bottlenecks, improve infrastructure, and re-engineer our peace and security strategies while establishing a one-stop repository of business knowledge and information,” he noted.
He also assured that his administration would not only give priority attention to women but to guarantee their rights and tap into their capability to drive social and economic development in Delta State, adding that he would initiate a youth development programme which will pull that strategic category of Deltans from the current state of hopelessness and prepare them for creative endeavours that will generate and direct their energies towards honourable engagement.
“Our agenda is to build a compassionate state that guarantees support for the vulnerable among us, and ensures that our people live in peace and security, free from harassment, intimidation and militancy,” he said.
Omo-Agege also identified investment in agriculture and technology-driven entrepreneurship as a way of addressing unemployment, adding that he planned to change the business ecosystem of the State with a view to creating an investment-friendly charter that will guarantee access to funds and infrastructure as a natural way of life.

Meanwhile, all is now set for the APC governorship primary in the State today where the Deputy President of the Senate who is aspiring to occupy the Osadebe seat of government in Asaba come 2023 is favoured to emerge the flagbearer of the party.
A release from the State Secretariat of the party indicated that the primary election is scheduled to hold at the Federal Government College of Education (Technical), Asaba.
