Dr Junaid Mohammed, a Second Republic member of the House of Representatives has died at the age 73.

Late Mohammed was a popular critic whose catalytic voice often sway argument on national issues.

The deceased brother, Dr Ahmed Salik, a former lecturer of Bayero University Kano, who confirmed the death said Junaid died on Thursday, at his residence in Kano after a protracted illness.

His remains is expected to be interred at his residence along Lamido Crescent in Kano, Friday.

The late Mohammed was a medical doctor who studied in the former Soviet Union, specialising in neurosurgery.

He later left medical practice and joined politics, contesting under the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), for a membership position in the House of Representatives in the Second Republic.

Similarly, Abdullahi Dikko, a former Comptroller-General (CG) of Nigerian Customs Service died on Thursday at the age of 61. He reportedly died after suffering from a long illness.

Reacting to the demise of the two prominent northern patriots, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), a socio-political group, in a tribute released by Abdulazeez Sulaiman, the spokesman of CNG, described their death as painful.

The statement which was made available to The New Diplomat, said the two patriots played a huge role in the promotion of the northern culture.

The statement reads: “The Coalition of Northern Groups has received with deep pain, the touching news of the death of two northern patriots, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko Inde and Dr Mohammed on Thursday February 20, 2021. The two noble gentlemen had played critical roles in the quest for the rebirth and promotion of the northern culture and values while providing meaningful mentorship and guidance to the youth. The contributions of Inde and Mohammed as guides, counsellors, leaders and patrons to the development of several northern youth initiatives including the CNG are indeed unquantifiable. We pray the Almighty God to grant them eternal bliss and grant the bereaved families the fortitude to bear this monumental loss.”
