In a striking display of unity, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, attended a burial ceremony together in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State, on Saturday.
This public appearance is the first since their reconciliation meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The trio, alongside other political allies, gathered to pay their respects at the funeral of Wike’s maternal uncle, Elder Temple Omezurike Onuoha, in Wike’s hometown of Rumuepirikom, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The event followed a high-stakes closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Tinubu facilitated reconciliation talks among Wike, Fubara, Amaewhule, and other Rivers State lawmakers.
The meeting, described as cordial, saw Fubara and Amaewhule exchanging jokes and laughter, a stark contrast to the tensions that led to their suspensions on March 19, 2025, after Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State to curb escalating political unrest.
