Some suspected armed men have reportedly killed a ward chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Ado Local government of Benue State, Mr Sunday Oche.
According to reports, Oche was reportedly ambushed and shot dead by unidentified gunmen on his way to his farm.
According to an eyewitness account, the unidentified armed men fired several shots at Oche, and many others also suffered several degrees of injuries.
The eyewitness said: “Those who went to the farm with the chairman came home with serious injuries, saying that they were attacked by bandits who also took their two motorcycles.”
The Labour Party Publicity Secretary in Benue State, Tersoo Orbunde, has confirmed the incident.
He confirmed that the body of the late ward chairman has been recovered and waiting for burial.
He said: “ Yes, he is a Ward Chairman from Igumale, Sunday Oche. He went to his cassava farm, and he was attacked there, and they killed him. They have brought the corpse back. Our people have gone there to console the family, and we are waiting for them on the arrangement for burial, and we see how we can come in.”
