Former vice president and 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, disclosed that no fewer than 100 abducted female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, are still be held captive by their abductors.

Atiku in his Facebook wall said “as a parent, I can imagine the pain and agony of being separated from my children for ages. But that has been the live experiences of the parents and guardians of the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, nine years today since they were abducted from their school.

“Though a number of the girls have escaped from captivity, sadly, about 100 are still being held by their abductors. The plight of the Chibok girls, who have attained womanhood, has become a metaphor for the Nigeria that has happened to the generality of our citizens in the last eight years short of a month.

“But as we remember and pray for them, never giving up on the infinite mercies of God for their miraculous freedom, let’s remember how the escaped girls are bracing the odds to send a clear message to their abductors and agents of retrogression: we shall conclude our pursuit of education. We must not give up until the last Chibok girl is rejoined with their family.

“However, on this 9th anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok girls, I wish to pay glowing tributes to Mary Katambi, the first of the escaped Chibok girls to graduate from the American University of Nigeria. In graduating with a degree in Accounting, Mary had become an inspiration to many.

“Thirteen other students out of the 57 Chibok students from AUN’s New Foundation School (NFS) are following in her footsteps and were admitted into various courses in the university in January last year. Many more will follow suit in the years ahead. This is in addition to several others pursuing their education in other institutions at home and abroad.”
