The National Economic Council, NEC, is holding its second meeting today, Thursday, at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja.
This meeting, which comes a day after a controversial increase in petrol pump price has angered Nigerians, is expected to deliberate on the reviewed palliative package for Nigerians.
The NEC meeting which is been chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettimawill be attended by governors of the 36 states of the Federation, the Director General of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, as well as stakeholders from the World Bank and other agencies of government.
This meeting is particularly important following the removal of petrol subsidy and the recent hike in petrol prices attributed to market forces.
The President has asked the council to deliberate on the reviewed palliative package for Nigerians and that is expected to top the agenda of the meeting among other issues.
The media have been excused and the meeting is in a closed door session but the resolutions from the meeting will be communicated to the media afterwards.
