As controversy over the mischievous call for the imposition of an Interim government soars, the Defence Headquarters described the proposition by some yet to be identified politicians in Nigeria as an aberration and unconstitutional.

The Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, stated that those behind the proposition as trying to be mischievous, adding that the constitution didn’t provide for an Interim national government.

Danmadami who made this declaration while addressing journalists at the bi-weekly briefing on military operations across Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja, said it was not the responsibility of the military to speak on such issue as the President has assured that there would not be an interim national government.

“It is unconstitutional. So anything unconstitutional as far as I am concerned is not applicable,” he said.

The Defence Spokesman who described the performance of the Operation Safe Conduct that was inaugurated to support the police and the independence national electoral commission, INEC as a huge success, reiterated the military preparedness to provide similar services towards the conduct of the remaining election in two states where elections were declared inconclusive.

He disclosed that the military is currently working round the clock to provide adequate security that would guarantee peace nationwide.

Danmadami, however, pledged unquestionable commitment and total dedication of the military to continue to discharge its statutory responsibilities to the utmost best of their ability just as he urged the civilian population to support its operations.
