A gunman opened fire Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, United States, injuring multiple victims before being subdued, police said. The church building was also reported to be on fire.
The Grand Blanc Township Police Department confirmed the shooter is down and said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities have urged residents to stay clear of the area as firefighters and emergency responders work at the scene.
Details about the number of victims, their conditions, and the identity of the shooter remain unclear, reports said.
The incident comes amid a spate of deadly attacks on U.S. places of worship. In August, a gunman killed two children and injured 17 others during a school Mass in Minneapolis, while in June, an armed attacker wounded a security guard at a Wayne, Michigan church before being shot dead.
Police say investigations are ongoing into the Grand Blanc shooting and the cause of the fire.
This is a developing story.
