Every moment of every hour, an scene is being added to the drama currently playing out in the Adamawa State supplementary election as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the “unknown men” who manhandled and stripped the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Hudu Ari naked.

The INEC National Commissioner, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye who made this call in Abuja, insisted that the officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) must be detailed to unmask the men behind the assault melted at the Adamawa State REC.

While admitting that Ari breached the electoral Act through the usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer by declaring the State supplementary Governorship results midway without figures of voters, Okoye noted that it’s abysmal for a man of the REC’s calibre to be so humiliated in such degrading manner.

The INEC National Commissioner posited that already those involved in the “Adamawa ‘s declaration” have been invited for questioning, and subsequent prosecution if need be.

He expressed concern on why the REC would be so treated while his case was being addressed appropriately.

Okoye said that those involved in the shameful act must be brought to book.

It would be recalled that Nigerians who cheered the maltreatment melted at the REC in the different social media platforms as earlier captured by The New Diplomat, insisted that other INEC staff culpable of similar act should be exposed to the same treatment.

In their opinion, it deter others contemplating similar act of short changing Nigerian voters.

At the moment, there is an uneasy calm in the Adamawa State capital, Yola as residents are gripped by palpable fear of the unknown.

The New Diplomat checks showed that police officers positioned at strategic locations in state capital, quizzed suspecting passers by.

The state Governor, Umaru Fintiri had sue for calm, urging his supporters and party faithful to remain peaceful as the matter is being addressed appropriately.
