The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki is now presiding over the cross-carpeting of 15 senators to PDP, after driving himself into the National Assembly complex in a private vehicle following the drama that ensued early Tuesday morning.

No fewer that 15 senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Tuesday, defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The defectors cited that APC was being fictionalised, hence, they would not continue to pursue their political careers under the ruling party.

However, the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawal opposed the defection, saying the action of the affected lawmakers should be quarantined while the letter written by the defected lawmakers should be stood down.

The defected lawmakers are Senators Dino Melaye, Barnabas Gemade, Murtala Nyako, Ibrahim Danbaba , Shitu , Nafada, Monsuat, Isah Misau, Suleiman Hunkuyi and others.

Many others are also being expected to announce their defections.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that Saraki was not in the vehicle when a detachment of security operatives blocked his convoy at his Apo residence with the view to preventing them from leaving the house.

As early as 7:00am, senators loyal to Parliamentary Support Group (PSG) had started arriving the National Assembly while those loyal to the Senate President also trooped in.

The PSG had already  perfected a plan to hurriedly Impeach Saraki as soon as he honours the police invitation, as signatures were said to have been collected overnight.

Saraki was said to have sensed the plot by opposing camp to change the leadership of the Senate and therefore decided to outsmart them by quickly sneaking into the National Assembly with a rickety vehicle he drove himself.

Though Saraki is yet to officially announce his defection to PDP, but the Senate has adjourn plenary sine dine.

It is not clear with the turn of the event if Saraki will honour the Police invitation regarding Offa robbery, but he announced on Monday evening his intention to do so.
