The All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet again announced its decision to put on hold its National Convention initially scheduled for February 26, 2022.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party in the letter signed by the Chairman, APC Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni and the Secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, informed the commission of its intention to conduct its zonal congress on March 26, 2022.
In the letter, the party explained that the zonal congress will supersede the national convention in accordance with its constitution.
The letter titled, ‘Notice for the Conduct of Zonal Congress’ read in part, “This notice supersedes our earlier notice for a national convention referenced APC/NHDQ/INEC/019/22/14. This is predicated on the evaluation of our party constitution.”
The New Diplomat recalls the APC has been postponing its national convention since 2020, when Adams Oshiomole was suspended from the position of the national chairman of the party.
This is as many party faithfuls had in the past expressed concerns that the frequent postponement of the APC Convention stands against logic as it has continued to deepen the internal crisis within the ruling party in just about a year to the general elections in 2023.
