Following the tragic death of Herbert Wigwe, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings, who died alongside his wife, Chizoba Wigwe, and son in a helicopter crash on Friday in the United States, reports indicate that Mr. Faleye Olushola, the Special Assistant (SA) to the bank’s chief, could have been involved in the accident.

According to THISDAY, Mr. Olushola, whose name was said to be on the manifest, cheated death as he did not board the ill-fated flight to Boulder City; instead, he decided to travel by road.

Prior to the incident, Mr. Olushola had flown with Wigwe, his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), from London, United Kingdom (UK) to Palm Springs, a city in California, US.

However, upon arriving at Palm Springs, Olushola decided not to board the ill-fated flight at night but to travel by road due to the unfavorable weather conditions.

Earlier, Access Bank Plc, while responding to the incident, said it could not confirm the veracity of the CEO’s death due to insufficient information it has received.

However, the bank, in a statement on X on Sunday, said it was in touch with US authorities who will provide it with more information.

“We have received numerous inquiries concerning an airplane crash in the USA.

“Presently, we lack specific information; however, we are actively collaborating with US authorities who will furnish updates.

“Your understanding and support are valued, and we commit to keeping you informed promptly as we receive updates on the situation,” the bank stated.
