Former President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the host of several Nigerians to mourn the passing of the immediate-past Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.

This is as the former President extended his condolences to the family of Onu, Abia, State and the entire nation over the demise of the notable politician and the first civilian governor of Abia State.

In his reaction to the news of the death of the former national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a party that once fielded him as a presidential candidate, Buhari said the nation had lost “one of its most outstanding scientific minds and intellectuals.”

This was contained in a terse statement signed by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu.

Buhari said: “He was an intellectual giant. My heart goes out to his family, the government, and the people of Abia State and the country at large. May his soul rest in peace.”

The New Diplomat reports that Onu, who served in the administration of Buhari from 2015 to 2023, died on Thursday in Abuja.

It would be recalled that while serving as national chairman of the defunct ANPP , his party forged an alliance with CPC, ACN, APGA faction and new PDP to form APC in 2014,as a major opposition which defeated the then ruling PDP.
