Two days after a gas plant explosion claimed four lives in Agbor, Delta State, another explosion has occurred at a retail gas outlet in Rumudomaya community in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The New Diplomat learnt that the explosion was at a private gas retail outlet on the popular Airport road in Rumudomaya at about 6 pm on Saturday.Gas Explosion Rocks Port Harcourt

The cause of the explosion could not be established at press time but witnesses in the neighborhood said that the explosion occurred from a spark in one of refill tanks located close to the entrance gate of the outlet.

Although, no life was lost but the explosion caused panic in the neigbhourhood, causing residents to scamper for safety as smoke billowed high in the air.

The Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Barrister Solomon Eke who was alerted over the incident, was  said to have mobilised security agencies and fire fighters who eventually put out fire.

It was further learnt that a staff of the gas retail on duty sustained varying degrees of burn.
