Garba Shehu Speaks on Buhari’s Medical Trips Abroad

• Says, they Were Personal Preference By Abiola Olawale Garba Shehu,...

The presidency has dissociated President Muhammadu Buhari from his estranged son-in-law, Gimba Yau Kumo declared wanted for alleged $65m fraud.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and ther related offenses Commission (ICPC) had declared Kumo and two others wanted over alleged misappropriation of $65 million National Housing Funds. Kumo is the former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

Reacting to the viral reports, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu in a statement said Kumo is no longer an in-law to Buhari as reported by various media.

He said bringing Buhari into the story was an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting.

“This should normally be an affirmation that our anti-corruption agencies/institutions are truly independent and allowed unfettered freedom by the President. Which in fact is the case.

“That a state institution can issue such is a measure of the administration’s commitment to accountability, equality and justice.” Shehu said.

Shehu said to set the records straight, the person declared wanted by the ICPC is no longer an in-law to President Buhari.

He stated that while at some point in time the said fugitive from justice had been linked to a family member in marriage, that relationship has ended some years ago.

“It is therefore unfortunate to bring the President’s family into this case.It is in our view an attempt to generate views and sell copies of sensational reporting,” he added.

Shehu said Buhari would not provide any cover for crime, no matter who is involved.

Kumo, had in 2016 married Fatima, the president’s daughter at an elaborate wedding in Daura, Katsina State. The President was on medical vacation in London and was unavoidably absent at the wedding. But top dignitaries in the country graced the event at the time.

Until Friday’s night when the Presidency disowned Buhari’s supposed Son-in-law, Kumo, nothing has been heard about the relationship and the separation between Fatima and her estranged husband, the embattled Kumo, who is now on the run.
