Former Cameroonian international and Chelsea star, Geremi Njitap, has initiated divorce proceedings following a reported discovery that the twins he raised for 12 years of marriage were not his biological children.

The 45-year-old had been in a marriage with Toukam Fotso Laure Verline for more than a decade.

Court documents in Geremi’s country home, Cameroon revealed that Toukam allegedly undermined their marital harmony through deceptive conduct and repeated falsehoods,” as reported by UK Sun.

Geremi was said to have discovered that the children were not his after series of DNA tests were conducted.

Moreover, Toukam had previously asserted that the twins, born in June 2008 – four years before their marriage – were Geremi’s, a claim that influenced their decision to wed, according to reports.

“But the discovery that the children were from her previous partner destroyed the couple’s harmony,” the documents added.

It would be recalled that Geremi featured in 109 matches for Chelsea from 2003 to 2007, where he scored four goals.

Prior to his time at Chelsea, he played for Real Madrid from 1999 to 2003 where he won the UEFA Champions League twice between 1999/2000 and 2001/02 seasons.

On the international stage, he was a key player in the Cameroon national team that clinched back-to-back the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles in 2000 and 2002.

He was also part of the Cameroonian squad that won gold in Sydney 2000 Olympics.
