The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the withdrawal of the suit challenging the legality of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by state governments to probe into alleged brutality by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The police legal department filed the suit in a federal high court in Abuja through its counsel, O.M Atoyebi, arguing that the establishment of panels violates the constitution and section 21 of the tribunals of inquiry act.

Atoyebi also asked the court to restrain the defendants from conducting any investigation or setting up panels to probe the affairs of the police.

In a statement by Force Public Relations Officer Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Frank Mba, Friday, the IGP’s order, is sequel to the outcome of investigations into the role played by the Force Legal Section in the institution of the said suit.

The IGP reassures citizens that the Force remains committed to the course of justice at all times and will not allow anybody to constitute a ‘brick-wall’ to the ongoing reform processes of the Force.
