*SWAN Lauds Obaseki for his Vision and Commitment to Welfare of Sports Team…

Besides offering world class facilities for sports competition, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) has adjudged the just concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) Edo 2020 to be the worst managed festival in the event’s history.

The organization was, however, full of praises for Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki for his vision and commitment to the welfare of sports personnel especially sports journalists.

In a communique by Honour Sirawoo-led SWAN, the body expressed displeasure at the managers of the Edo hosted event, blaming the federal government for the outcome of the poor assessment.

“Agrees unequivocally that apart from the provision of world class infrastructure, Edo 2020 is the worst managed National Sports Festival ever organized in the history of Nigeria,” the communique signed by chairman, Isaiah Benjamin stated in part.

SWAN bemoaned alleged cases of poor officiating, financial inducement and poor handling of media role in the Edo national festival.

SWAN claimed that the poor management caused tension, fight, crisis, protests at different sections of the festival including volunteers.

SWAN however threatened to boycott subsequent edition of the competition if sports funding is not given due priority.

The body of sports journalists was so far pleased with Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obasseki, former Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung and Sir Honour Sirawoo for extending welfare to journalists who covered the biannual event.
