Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and tolerance as the country joins the rest of the world in marking the 2021 Easter celebrations.

In his Easter message, Omo-Agege called on Nigerians to embrace peaceful co-existence amid the several calls for secession in the country.

This was contained in a statement released by Mr Yomi Odunuga, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Deputy Senate President.

Following the several reported cases of security challenges rocking the country, which has in turn led to the call for secession from various quarters in the country, the Deputy Senate President urged Nigerians to allow peace to reign.

Recall the O’odua activist, Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Igboho, recently called for the establishment of the Yoruba Nation.

Similarly, Asari Dakubo, a former militant in the Nigeria’s Niger Delta region, had also announced the establishment of his self-styled Biafra de-facto customary government in the south south and Southeast regions of Nigeria.

Against the backdrop of this development, Senator Omo-Agege who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, said the celebration of the resurrection of Christ should be a constant reminder for everyone to extend the virtues of selflessness, love and forebearance.

According him, “no nation can make any meaningful progress in an atmosphere riddled with pockets of violence and killings”.

The statement reads, “As we remember the death of Jesus and celebrate His resurrection, let us make sacrifices for those around us and renew our commitment towards building a better society. Let us not be dismayed because with His resurrection, Jesus Christ calls us to proclaim and live the gospel of true love and selflessness.

“No nation can make any meaningful progress in an atmosphere riddled with pockets of violence and killings. We must therefore see this period as a time that presents us the viable opportunity to think about how we can help to steer our nation back on the road to peace, stability and prosperity by working in the spirit of togetherness.”
