Team Nigeria have moved into a closed camp today, July 9 2022 in preparation for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

This was revealed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Chief Sunday Dare.

The camp for Team Nigeria will begin in Abuja, Lagos, and Yenagoa, according to the sports minister, while the athletes who are based abroad will begin another camp in the United States, from where they will travel to Birmingham for the Games.

“We have a template for the Games which ended with the national trials in Benin City last week. Other sports we are participating in have also done their respective trials and we have registered those who will travel,” Dare stated.

“The next stage of our preparation is to go into a closed camp in Nigeria and America for our athletes in diaspora. We are going to participate in nine sporting events. We are going with a small group of athletes we believe will deliver.

“Hopefully, we shall do well at this Commonwealth Games, may be we post the best ever outing in the history of the games. As usual, we shall motivate the athletes and their officials to achieve our target.”

Nigeria will compete in nine sports, including athletics, table tennis, boxing, judo, wrestling, weightlifting, and para events, at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which are scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 8.
