The whereabout of Senate President Bukola Saraki remains unknown as aides close to him confirmed Tuesday morning as at the time of filing this report, that they have not been able to reach him on phone and can’t confirm his location presently.

According to the spokesperson of the Senate President, Yusuf Olaniyonu, Saraki who was summoned by the police to appear Tuesday morning at its headquarters in Abuja over his alleged link to Offa bank robbers has been out of reach.

Speaking on a Ray Power’s political program closely monitored by The New Diplomat, Olaniyonu said: “The normal channel of communication with him has been blocked and nobody can reach him.

“The more disturbing one is that the security agencies have besieged the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu so what that means is that without the officers physically present at the National Assembly chambers, then the Senate cannot seat for any plenary.”

Meanwhile, reports reaching The New Diplomat confirmed that officials of the Department of State Security Services, (DSS), the Police as well as the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday morning laid siege to the residence of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu in Abuja.

This is coming also after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s home was locked down by police officers and his convoy prevented from leaving the premises to attend to the invitation by the Inspector General of Police, Idris K. Ibrahim.

The reason behind their action is unclear at the moment.

Confirming the development, Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kola Ologbodiyan wondered why the security operatives were after the lawmakers.

He tweeted, “Security operatives block Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu,’s residence in Apo, Abuja… Senate President Bukola Saraki already invited by the Police by 8am… Is this a democracy?”

More Details on development.. ..
