The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has apprehended embattled police officer, Abba Kyari over allegations of belonging to a drug cartel.
Kyari, a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), was arrested shortly after the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disclosed that he allegedly tried to bribe one of its operatives to facilitate the release of some seized drugs.
Spokesperson of NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, who spoke during a press conference in Abuja had alleged that Kyari initiated a call to one of its operatives on January 22, 2022 and offered to pay a total sum of $61,400 to clear 25kg cocaine.
Kyari was alleged to be a part of a drug cartel that operates the Brazil-Ethiopia-Nigeria illicit drug route.
Recall also that Kyari has been in the eye of the storm since emergence of allegations that he was involved in a fraud scheme masterminded by an international fraud kingpin, Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi.
Following the allegation, Kyari was suspended from his position as the DCP in the police force.
