Suspected bandits invaded Government Science College (GSC) located in Kagara, Niger state, in an early morning raid, Wednesday, abducting several students from their hostels there.

Reports reaching The New Diplomat indicate that staff and some family members of the students were also kidnapped by the bandits reportedly numbering about 300

One of the students was said to have killed in the attack.

Former Kaduna senator, who is an old student of the school, has confirmed the abduction.

According to Sani, the principal of the school confirmed the incident to him in the affirmative.

“Early hours of this morning, Armed bandits stormed the Government Science College Kagara Niger State,my alma mata,and abducted some students and staff family members. I just spoke to the principal,” Sani tweeted.

The number of the students and staff carted away from the school was yet to be known as of the time of this reporting, but the school has a population of about 1,000 students.

The Niger State Police Command cannot be immediately reached for comment, however, a press conference called by the Niger State government is about to be underway.
