President Muhammadu Buhari, late Friday spoke on the #EndSARS protests that have rocked the nation, sparking outrage elsewhere in the world.

Buhari who held a meeting with IGP, Adamu Mohammed said his administration was committed to the reform of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) operations in the country, even though protesters are calling for an outright disbandment of the police unit.

He urged Nigerians to be patient and calm as they freely exercise their right to protest peacefully.

He said he has asked the IGP to address the concerns of Nigerians on the excesses of the force.

The President tweeted: “I met again with the IGP tonight. Our determination to reform the police should never be in doubt.

“I am being briefed regularly on the reform efforts ongoing to end police brutality and unethical conduct, and ensure that the Police are fully accountable to the people.

“The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, & ensure erring personnel are brought to justice.

“I appeal for patience & calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.

“The vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their.”

His reaction comes as Nigerians poured to the streets on Thursday and Friday, demanding sanity among the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, especially through the scrapping of the FSARS that many view as an instrument of public harassment and oppression in the country.
