The Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Biodun Fatoyinbo, has hailed the decision of the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo to lay off some pastors in his church over ‘unfruitfulness.’
Fatoyinbo who took to his official Instagram page said that church workers are meant to be fruitful and successful, adding that there is no room for laziness in the church of God.
Recall that Winners Chapel, earlier this week came under heavy backlash following the claim by a Pastor identified as Godwin that he was sacked by the church authorities over failure to generate enough income. He also added that over 40 other pastors suffered the same fate in the hands of the Winner Chapel authorities.
Many Nigerians have also reacted to the claim, criticising Bishop Oyedepo for sacking the pastors.
Reacting to the criticism, Oyedepo had said that the pastors were sacked because they were unfruitful.
The renowned pastor described the allegations as nonsense.
“People are confused about our Ministry. I learnt some fellows said, ‘you know, they are not bringing income, that is why they asked them to go’.
“We asked you to go because you are unfruitful. Unfruitful! Blatant failure. Doing what there? We have no patience with failure here,” Oyedepo had said.
Similarly, Fatoyinbo has also weighed in on the matter, commending the leadership of the Living Faith Church for weeding out the ‘Unfruitful trees amidst the church.’
Backing his claim, the pastor quoted a bible parable, saying that a major criteria for church workers is the souls they won for the church.
According to him, if they were sacked from the bank they would not report on social media.
”If you were fired by the Bank for not meeting up with your deliverables will you go on social media? In @bidemiolaoba‘s voice “The Bible Says”. – He spoke also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.
”Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bears fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down,” he wrote.
