United States of America’s capital, Washington DC, is witnessing heavy presence of security agencies as more than 20,000 National Guard Troops (NGT) have been deployed to secure theĀ  capital which has now become a war zone ahead of the inauguration of the US President-elect, Joe Biden and Vice President-elect, Kamala Harris.

Following the security threats the US capital is experiencing, security troops have been deployed to make sure that the inauguration taking place on Wednesday, 20th of January is done without lost of lives and properties.

The US Army Secretary, Ryan McCarthy, approved the deployment of the 20,000 guard members to Washington to protect the presidential swearing-in. The deployment is coming days after the invasion of US Capitol and the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Many US intelligence have predicted security threats to the inauguration. Security agencies have in turn deployed security personnels to all the states in the country.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned that an armed group planned to storm government offices in all the 50 states to disrupt the inauguration. The security agency said they received an information that an armed group is intending to travel to Washington with the sole aim to cause chaos in the capital.

Also, Robert Contee, Washington Police Chief, has said the US Capital is facing a major security threat. Contee said he is concerned about the security of the capital following the invasion of the Capitol on January 6.

The US Secret Service, in charge of security is also considering the total shutdown of the entire National Mall and its environs. The National Mall is where all thousands gather to celebrate the inauguration of a new president.

There are concerns that mobs and protesters could take advantage of the situation to perpetrate their evil acts.

While responding to the security threats concerns, the US Vice President, Mike Pence has vowed to ensure that the transition is orderly and safe. The vice president said that after a briefing with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on Thursday.

He said, “As the president made clear yesterday, we are committed to an orderly transition and to a safe inauguration.”

The FEMA Administrator, Pete Gaynor, said after the briefing that close to 200 agencies across the country have come together to ensure that the inauguration is done orderly.

He said, “Nearly 200 agencies have come together to ensure the security, the safety of government officials, facilities and the general public.”

It would be recall that the security of US was threatened by the invasion of the Capitol by mobs. The attack on the Capitol by the alleged Trump supporters was to stop the affirmation of Biden’s victory.

It would be recalled also that the inauguration of Biden and Harris is set to hold on Wednesday, 20th January.

They are set to become the 46th president and vice president respectively.
