The embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Thursday presided over the State Executive Council meeting in Akure, the state capital on behalf of his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu.
Also, it was gathered that the Ondo State House of Assembly has withdrawn the appeal against the deputy governor at the appeal court sitting in Abuja.
It would be recalled that on September 26, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, prohibited Ondo State Governor, its Chief Judge, its House of Assembly, its Speaker, and other relevant parties from taking action to impeach Aiyedatiwa until a pre-existing application for a court interlocutory injunction had been resolved.
But an appeal was filed by the State Assembly, Olamide Oladiji on October 3.
But, at the proceedings, Remi Olatubora, SAN, the counsel for the applicants, declared to the court that the concerned parties had reached a political settlement with regards to the issue.
This comes months after a rift between the Deputy Governor and supporters of Governor Akeredolu.
The current harmony between the deputy governor and supporters of the governor trails last week’s intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after summoning the warring factions to a peace meeting.
At the meeting, it was decided that the deputy governor would continue carrying out his duties as deputy governor signalling the end of the political rift in the state.
Recall that since August after the return of Governor of Akeredolu to the country, Aiyedatiwa was indicted by the State Assembly for corruption allegations.
It was gathered that Aiyedatiwa allegedly approved the sum of N300 million for the purchase of an SUV without the consent of his principal while he was away in Germany for a medical treatment.
