The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) kickstarted on Sunday with the opening of the Group A match between Cameroon and Burkina Faso.

Cameroon, who is hosting the tournament recorded the first three points of the 2021 AFCON.

The hosts defeated Burkina Faso 2-1 in the opening game of AFCON which held at the the Paul Biya Stadium, Cameroon.

Burkina Faso scored the first goal of the 2021 AFCON tournament through Gustavo Sangaré who found the back of the net in the 24th minute. However, the stallions couldn’t hold on to the one goal lead as Vincent Aboubakar converted from the spot to draw Cameroon level in the 40th minute.

Aboubakar netted his second of the night from the penalty spot again in the 45th minute, a goal which proved enough to secure Cameroon all the three points.

With the win, Cameroon sits on top of the group A as Ethiopia and Cape Verde lock horns later in the evening.
