An explosion occurred at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, leading to heightened tension in the state.

Reports reaching the New Diplomat reveal that the buildings in the APC Secretariat used by the Tony Okocha-led faction, were reportedly shattered in the early hours of Saturday.

The explosion was said to have been caused by explosives suspected to be dynamites

The explosion brought down the gate of the secretariat while doors, windows and other property were destroyed.

Speaking with the press, Okocha said: “About 3:20 am, some gun-trotting young men with their explosives and all that came here and dropped the first explosive, maybe because the one they dropped here did not detonate, they came back the second time to burn the structure – look at the security house is gone.

“Behind me, you will see that there was also an attempt. Our people came, and we were able to quench the fire,” Okocha said.

It would be recalled that this is the second time the Okocha-led APC would be experiencing such an attack at its secretariat this year.

The explosion also comes amid the local government elections in Rivers State.
