In a last ditch-move aimed at halting the planned industrial action by Organized Labour, the 36 states governors are scheduled to hold an emergency meeting  today to open a window of dialogue with the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC).

Recall that the NLC is threatening  to embark on an industrial action to press home its demand which include the following: One, that  the Federal Government should rescind its decision on the recent hike in the prices of petroleum products. Two, the Federal government should review its decision to increase  cost of electricity.

The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) disclosed this in a statement issued by its Head, Media and Public Affairs, Mr Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Mr Bello-Barkindo said the emergency meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. today would seek ways of settling the rift and find a mutual agreement. According to him,  all governors were expected to attend  this  first NGF emergency virtual teleconference to consider the matter which he described as a subject matter  of urgent national importance.

Bello-Barkindo said that the matter needs to be quickly addressed in order to avoid worsening and escalating an already tough situation among Nigerians occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
