Nigeria has recorded another 13 new cases of Coronavirus, taking the national tally to 318 in what appears to be a further penetration of the six geopolitical zones in the country by the ravaging virus.
According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Lagos accounted for 11 of the 13 new cases, with Delta and Kano recording one case each.
“13 new cases of #COVID-19 have been reported; 11 in Lagos, 1 in Delta & 1 in Kano.
“As at 9:30pm, 11th April there are 318 confirmed cases of #COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. 70 have been discharged with 10 deaths.
“There are 19 states with confirmed cases in Nigeria,” NCDC said on its twitter handle. Kano State, with one case has just joined the league of States with Coronavirus.
Lagos has continued to be the epicentre of the pandemic, with 11 new cases, taking its total figures to 174.
Lagos discharged more Coronavirus patients than any other state, with 50 recovered patients discharged so far.
Four Coronavirus patients have also died in the state, two others evacuated to their countries and three others transferred to Ogun State where they live.
Total active cases in Lagos has moved from 107 to 120 with the new addition.
Meanwhile, with Kano, a populous northwest state, recording its index case Saturday, the virus has continued to penetrate states in the country maintaining a nationwide geographical spread across Nigeria.
According to Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, the Special Assistant on Media to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, while making the disclosure via his verified Twitter account, the index case was recorded in a patient who returned to Kano from Abuja before the closure of the state border.
He said: “Kano has recorded its first case of coronavirus in the State.
“The index case lives around UDB (Urban Development Board) Road, he returned from Abuja on the eve of the border closure in the State.
“All those close to him have been tested and are awaiting results. He is currently at Kwanar Dawaki Isolation Centre”. he said.
The virus was first confirmed in Nigeria on February 27 with Southwest’s Lagos quickly emerging as the epicenter of the pandemic in the country. But with time, it has since established presence in Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
As of the time of this report, the novel virus has been reported in 19 states and the FCT.
All the 6 southwest states have recorded cases; 4 states in south south; 2 states in Southeast; 4 states in Northwest; Bauchi in Northeast; 2 states and Abuja in North-central.
Nigeria overshot the 300 mark on Friday.
