THE Senate was shocked, yesterday, when it discovered that  the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, awarded a contract to a firm with no equipment on ground, and the job has been abandoned. The firm, LCD Nigeria Limited  was awarded a contract by the NDDC to construct a 28-kilometre Amaogoke-Ezeoke Nsu- Nzerem Ikpem- Isiokwe Road, Imo State in 2011 to the tune of N6 billion. Speaking yesterday at the site, Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, PDP, Delta North noted that it was a situation of stealing the Federal Government’s money where the NDDC paid the construction company N4.1 billion representing  68 per cent of the total sum without serious work on group.

Senator Nwaoboshi who was furious at the contractor, however accused NNDC staff of conniving with contractors to milk Nigeria, just as he vowed that the 8th Senate would come up with a report and bring everyone to book. The Senator who noted that the Senate was highly disappointed and not happy over the development, stressed that it would no longer be business as usual with contractors collecting money and failing to deliver and the money would just disappear to the detriment of other Nigerians.
