The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 for judgment in the terrorism case against detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Justice James Omotosho announced the date on Friday after Kanu failed to open his defence, despite being given six days to present his case.

The judge held that the IPOB leader could not claim he was denied fair hearing, having been provided ample opportunity to defend himself but choosing not to do so.

However, Kanu on Friday filed a fresh motion challenging the validity of his trial, arguing that terrorism is no longer an offence under Nigerian law.

He claimed that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act under which he is being prosecuted had been repealed, and therefore the charges against him cannot stand.

Kanu urged the court to dismiss the case entirely and order his release.
