In a shocking act of violence, Colombian presidential candidate and opposition senator Miguel Uribe was shot three times, including twice in the head, during a campaign rally in Bogotá’s Fontibón district on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

The attack, captured on video and reported by local reports was said to have sent shockwaves through Colombia.

The New Diplomat reports that Uribe, a prominent figure in the right-wing Democratic Center party, was said to have been rushed to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.

It was gathered that the incident occurred around 5 p.m. while Uribe was addressing supporters in a public park.

Videos circulating on social media show Uribe slumped against a white car, heavily bleeding, as aides and bystanders rushed to his aid.

He was airlifted to the Santa Fe Foundation hospital, where he underwent emergency neurosurgery and peripheral vascular surgery.

Uribe’s wife, Maria Claudia Tarazona, made a public appeal for prayers:

“Miguel is currently fighting for his life. Let us ask God to guide the hands of the doctors who are treating him,” she said.

Authorities also said they have arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting. This was confirmed by Colombia’s Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez. He added that investigators are exploring whether others were involved.

Uribe, a pre-candidate for the 2026 presidential election, hails from a prominent political family.

His mother, journalist Diana Turbay, was kidnapped by Pablo Escobar’s Medellín Cartel in 1990 and killed during a rescue attempt in 1991.
