The Rivers State House of Assembly has adjourned its sittings indefinitely, triggering fresh wave of drama.

This comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State had written to the Assembly, requesting to re-present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.

Fubara had, in a letter dated March 13, 2025, addressed to Speaker Martins Amaewhule, expressed his intention to present the 2025 budget on March 19 or any other convenient date within the month.

The governor said the move was in compliance with a Supreme Court judgment and followed a previous attempt on March 12, where he was reportedly locked out of the Assembly complex.

However, during Friday’s session, the Assembly, led by Speaker Amaewhule, passed three bills into law before announcing the indefinite suspension of sittings.

The bills include the Rivers State House of Assembly (Powers and Privileges) Bill, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) Bill, and the Rivers State Local Government Bill, 2025.
