The Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate, Oyelola Yisa Ashiru, has said that contrary to allegations by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) that a cache of drug was found in his home and some of his aides arrested, is false.

Ashiru said the allegation is just a ploy to besmirch his reputation. Ashiru’s denial came after the agency said the senator representing Kwara South is casting aspersions on it because drugs were allegedly found in his home.

Recall that last week, Ashiru, during a debate in the red chamber, had said the agency is the “most corrupt and compromised government agency.”

In a statement on Monday, Olaitan Adeyanju, a legislative Aide to Ashiru, quoted him as wondering why the agency did not file charges against him if indeed drugs were found at his home in Kwara.

The senator said it is “preposterous” for NDLEA to make the allegations against him after he spoke on the floor of the senate.

“As a matter of fact, Senator Ashiru never employed any aid bearing Ibrahim Mohammed and Mohammd Yahaya as bandied by NDLEA,” the statement reads.

“The agency claimed that its operatives visited the senator’s Ilorin house and found nothing incriminating. The entire house was searched, and nothing incriminating was found.

“If any drugs were found on certain persons mentioned by the NDLEA, it is rational to ask at which court of law were the culprits charged?

“It is also important to state that Senator Ashiru has not sent any aide j as Tosin Odepidian. Indeed, all the names mentioned by the agency are strange, and none works directly or indirectly with Senator Ashiru.

“The NDLEA has the duty to take anyone suspected of drug dealing to court rather than name-calling and engaging in media trials.”

The NDLEA had maintained in its statement that during a raid on the Senator’s house , two of his aides Ibrahim Mohammed and Muhammed Yahaya were arrested.
