The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has disclosed that a total of 2.6 million individuals are registered to vote in the forthcoming September 21, 2024 governorship election of Edo State.

This is as the INEC boss also revealed that all election and sensitive materials are ready and will be delivered to the Central Bank of Nigeria next week.

Yakubu made these revelations while speaking at the INEC Stakeholders Conference in Benin City, Edo State

He also disclosed that mock accreditation has been successfully carried out in preparation for the election.

In his address, the Inspection General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, said the force has put its foot down to work towards a peaceful election in the state,

He insisted that the NPF was equal to the task.

He said, “The big plan is to ensure an environment that will guarantee peace during the conduct of the election.”

He assured that the force would deploy massive police personnel numbers, alongside over 8 000 members of sister agencies will be on the ground.

The New Diplomat reports that the Edo state resident registered voters are going to the polls to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Dr Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) are among the leading candidates for the top job of Edo State.
