The Director General (DG) of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has resigned from his position.

It was gathered that Abubakar made his decision to bow out of the Service known in his resignation letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday.

The New Diplomat reports that he was appointed as the substantive Director General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.

Abubakar, a retired career Foreign Service officer, had before his appointment in 2018, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

He also has extensive experience working experience with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation processes, preventive diplomacy, and good offices. The astute and calm career diplomat with strong specialty in Soft Power diplomacy and speaks many languages is versed in the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights.
