There seems to be a discrepancy in communication between the media aides of President Bola Tinubu, as two of his aides have issued conflicting statements concerning a State-of-the-Nation address at the National Assembly on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 28, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that the President would address a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

He also revealed that the President would not broadcast to the nation over his first anniversary in office.

Onanuga had said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not broadcast to the nation on Wednesday to celebrate his first anniversary as the leader of Nigeria.

“Instead, the President will address a joint session of the National Assembly, which has lined up a programme to commemorate 25 years of the nation’s democratic journey at both the executive and legislative levels.

“At the end of the speeches, President Tinubu will commission the National Assembly Library and Resource Centre, now to be known as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Building.

However, in a conflicting statement, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, described the statement saying Tinubu would address the National Assembly as false and unauthorised.

Ngelale said the Office of the President is not part of any visit to the National Assembly on Wednesday.

He said: “Given public commentary concerning the President delivering a speech before a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly tomorrow, May 29, 2024, it is important to state that this information is false and unauthorised, as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event.”
