Superstar Afrobeat sensation, Davido (David Adeleke), has opened up about why he decided to pursue legal action against Kenyan media outlet, K24, for spreading false information about his arrest.

In a recent TikTok video, Davido revealed that his father, Adedeji Adeleke, encouraged him to take action against the media outlet after they published a fake story claiming he was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on April 1, 2024.

The New Diplomat reports that the report alleged that illegal drugs were discovered on Davido’s private plane following his performance at Kenya’s Raha Festival.

Despite the story being dismissed as an April Fool’s prank, it gained traction and caught the attention of authorities.

Davido initially considered ignoring the matter, but his father’s concerns about the potential damage to his reputation and security issues during travels prompted him to take action.

In the TikTok video, Davido expressed gratitude for his father’s advice and emphasised the importance of addressing false accusations to avoid potential repercussions.

In his words: “My dad was calling me like, ‘Where are you at?’ I was like, ‘I am home’. He’s like, ‘what’s this’? And I see it on the net, and at first, I was like, ‘no, I am not going to report it. Just let it go. It’s April Fool’s.’

“Then my dad was like, ‘no, because you can fly a plane to any country now and then they bring 20 police to check you’… I haven’t seen that type of drug in my life.

“So, yeah, I am taking legal action because it might just go the wrong way if we just don’t.”
