The arrival of medal-winning duo Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume has boosted confidence in Team Nigeria’s camp as Nigeria’s athletes are fully represented at the colourful ceremony of this year’s Commonwealth Games tagged ‘Birmingham 2022’.
The Coordinator of Team Nigeria at the games, Yusuf Ali, disclosed the arrival of the duo at the camp to newsmen.
The Commonwealth Games kicked off in a carnival of colour at the Alexander Stadium on Thursday night.
The 22nd edition was officially opened by Prince Charles who was the chief guest.
Prince Charles delivered a speech from The Queen who said the Commonwealth games “remind us of the connection with one another, wherever we may be in the world, as part of the Commonwealth family of nations.”
Speaking further, The Queen described Birmingham “as a pioneering city which has drawn in and embraced so many throughout its history”.
As of the time of filing this report, over 6,500 athletes from 54 countries including Nigeria have streamed into Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium for the colourful ceremony.
