Ukraine has on Monday released their demands as Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin of Russia agree to peace talks.

Talks between Russian and Ukrainian officials began on the Belarusian border on Monday, Moscow said, as Russia’s diplomatic and economic isolation deepens four days after invading Ukraine.

Ukraine’s demands include an immediate Russian ceasefire and troops withdrawal and “immediate” European Union membership for Ukraine.

Zelenskyy, in a statement, urged Russian soldiers to lay down their weapons.

He said, “The Ukrainian delegation arrived at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border to take part in talks with representatives of the Russian Federation.

“The key issue of the talks is an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of troops from Ukraine.”

On Sunday, Putin ordered the country’s nuclear deterrent forces to be on high alert.

Putin’s latest war tactic is currently jangling more nerves in Europe, already imperilled by the Russian invasion.

“This is dangerous rhetoric. This is a behavior which is irresponsible,” the alliance’s secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg told CNN amid heightened tensions across Europe.

The Putin’s order came at a meeting between the president, the defence minister, Sergei Shoigu, and the chief of the general staff of the armed forces of Russia, Valery Gerasimov.

Putin who made this declaration on Sunday said it was in response to the ‘aggressive statements’ made by The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
