A Nigerian medical doctor based in the United Kingdom, Wilson Orhiun, has published an electrifying book titled “The Naija Food Philosopher”.

The book, published on the 18th of December, 2020, illustrates how the story of mankind cannot be told without what it eats.

The 320-page book is centred on food and the Nigerian people’s love for delicacies.

In the book, Orhiunu employed a riveting story to take the readers into the story behind the numerous Nigerian delicacies.

In a brief note about the book, Orhiunu said its cover was personal to him.

“The cover for this book is very personal. I thought of changing it when the EndSars protests ended up with a bloodied National flag as its enduring iconic image. But then, I thought again. The people have no problem with Nigerian food or water; after all water and food have no enemies,” he said.

Orhiunu was born in Islington, London, England in 1964. He was educated in Lagos and obtained his degree in medicine from the University of Benin, Nigeria. In 1989, he moved back to England, where he further trained in general surgery and general practice. He currently resides in Birmingham, UK, where he works as a General Practitioner.

Orhiunu is also an author and an expert on Nigerian Pidgin English. He has published the widely acclaimed Pidgin English translation of Psalm 23; My Time (2005) and Love Letters, a romantic comedy (July 2009).
